Day 4 of the year’s 365 day photo project has come and gone, and it is safe to say there will probably be a ton of food and drink posts to come this year. Today’s post is inspired by the meat pie dinner party we had at our place with a couple of Pat’s friends — a party that made me realize (again) how much I enjoy [his] meat pies.
The Australian people love meat pies, and it is actually what they are referring to when they say they want a pie, not like the fruit pies we get in the States. The closest thing I can compare them to is a pot pie, but with a usually thicker gravy inside. Here, the meat pie is a famous Australian food that resembles a kind of fast food along with sausage rolls and chiko rolls.
Only the typical meat pies that you might get at a footy game or at the local convenience store are usually filled with a more gelatinous gravy and meat of a lower quality. Not so much my favorite thing in the world…
…not until I bought Pat a pie machine for Christmas last year.
I’m pretty sure it has been the best present I could have gotten for anyone since he is obsessed with pies and making them a bit gourmet. So, I am often met with something that looks like this:
They’re usually filled with a glorious chicken curry or stew that has been lovingly prepared by the master of the kitchen himself.
Yummy, yummy.
I’m so lucky to have a boyfriend that can cook and give me some Aussie meat pies that I love!

Yum! Lucky girl!
I love your daily pic posts Brooke! Keep it up!
Aw, thanks Annie
I will try!
I have never ever heard of a pie machine but chicken curry pie sounds way better than our pot pie.
Pie machines are amazing. It’s like a sandwich press, but has the shape of a pie. We put in pastry, fill it, close it and wah-lah!
So lucky! I took a picture of my Harry de Wheels pie and when it came to printing pictures, I printed that one and it’s in my living room so I can drool over it every day. I miss pies so much Pot pies don’t do them justice.
Yum! Harry’s was my first pie experience, and they are quite good, but I’m lucky that Pat’s pies are even better
Don’t tease me! YUMMMMMMMMM.
