Day 149: Birthday Margaritas!

Day 149: Birthday Margaritas!

I sometimes find it a little embarrassing to admit to people that I have never been to California before. Sure, I’ve lived in K-stan and Down Under, and even Ukraine, but California I had never stepped foot in until this past week. Amazing.

Since I hadn’t been, I thought that a little sampler plate would be the way to go, so we chose to do 2 days in LA and two days in San Francisco before heading to the Midwest, and it just so happens that my 28th birthday (WHAT THE F*#$?!) fell on the 2nd day in Hollywood.

In light of this little fun fact, I thought it would be awesome to do something I haven’t been able to do with a good bit of luck while living in Sydney (or Ukraine, or Bishkek for that matter) and celebrate it in style at a fantastic Mexican restaurant with flaming margaritas and some online acquaintances I’ve been wanting to meet up with in real life for a while now.

I put some feelers out and the party ended up being a totally awesome group. We had Jade and Bob from Vagabond3, Rebecca from Travels at 88mph, Sheryll of The Wanderlust Project and her beau (a stuntman) and friend. It ended up being a great little celebration (to be honest, I kept forgetting we were celebrating my birthday – so weird), and I couldn’t have been happier…

… and that happiness was only multiplied by the fact I was at a real Mexican restaurant in L.A., and that was then only topped by the flaming margarita I was served. Oh, buddy, I had been waiting for that one like all day!

How surreal. How awesome. How unbelievable… to be back in America and 28 and meeting people I’ve been interacting with online for ages. How amazing is our world these days, seriously?

I also want to give a huge high five to Rebecca for carrying on the party when the others had to leave (Bob was about to spend the evening doing a Converse shoe commercial — HELL YEAH my fave shoes of all time). She took Pat and I to Wendy’s for a chocolate frosty, up to the observatory (no stars, but lots of city lights) and then on to 7 Grand, a wicked awesome whisky bar in downtown L.A. where I ordered myself up a prohibition specialty. Thanks so much!!!!

Sounds like a great way to celebrate your birthday mate. Oh and don’t worry about 28… I found a 3 in my birthday this year and its way more horrifying.
