In my daily life, I dream a lot about travel. While I’m working, I’m often thinking about gallivanting in distant lands, or reminiscing of my travel past where memories become more like dreams as I wonder now if it all really happened. It becomes even weirder when some of the destinations were actually more like fictional fairy tale settings in themselves.
One such fairy tale place was the castle in Trakai, Lithuania.
In the small sleepy town of Trakai, there lies the island castle that dates back to the 14th century. It has seen reconstruction many times since then, by Imperial Russia and the Germans both. The most recent reconstruction ended in 1961 leaving the castle more like a museum (an awesome one) that draws in tourists passing through this Baltic country. I recommend this as a day trip from Vilnius.
This castle makes my Friday dream travel destination. Enjoy!

Picture perfect.

The castle in the distance. Magical.

The bridge that leads you to the island castle.

Love the drawbridge.

In the castle.

Awesome lighting in the castle.

Wow those pictures are so beautiful! It definitely looks like a fairy tale. What is it a museum of?
I’ve never been too impressed by castle visits. They all look old and boring and I’ve been to some in England and Czech as far as I can remember but this one looks very medieval and scary!
