I wasn’t sure how to comment for Bethany but wanted to say that Proctor and Gamble are everywhere. I found Garnier Nutrisse in Guatemala so what does that say.

My only caveat was that the dye had an extra bottle and at first I wasn’t sure what it was but now understand it was oil to moisturize my hair. Hot countries also have issues with hair drying out, especially from colouring it.

Also, if you’re worried about your hair drying out you have two options:
    1) stock up on the old school VO5 Hot Oil which is super small.
    2) all hot countries have some kind of moisturizing product, you could take your chance on that

Thanks Ayngelina – I’m sure Bethany will appreciate the feedback :)

I can’t help with the hair dye, but for dryness I can totally attest to some good ol’ olive oil. If you do it at night, just run it through your hair (you will find your hair just soaks it up), heat with a blow dryer so it traps it in, put a shower cap on, wrap in a towel and sleep on it. Shampoo twice, then condition. Helps!

Also, if you plan to be outside in the sun, run a bit through your hair and put it up in a ponytail. It protects your hair from drying out, and the sun actually heats the oil so it works into the hair better.

My scalp has also been getting super dry lately – even dandruff shampoos haven’t been helping. Last week, I massaged olive oil directly onto my scalp and let it sit for 2 hours, and I haven’t seen a flake since.

I think adding a tiny nalgene bottle of olive oil to a pack would not be hard, and you might even be able to just grab a refill from someone in a hostel somewhere.

Thank you ladies for your olive oil suggestions! I think it would be an easy to thing to put into a backpack and you have some cooking oil just in case! haha. I’m hoping someone has some similar hair dying allergies and can let me know what they do about it around the world.

I am allergic to the companies that Ayngelina mentioned above but I don’t want grey hairs in all my travel photos! What is worse burning, itching, oozing scalp or gray hairs?? not sure! :)

If that brand works, maybe you could have it posted to you at different locations around the world? You could pre-post some to me here in Oz for sure.

That’s a good idea Brooke! I might have to take you up on that. :)
