I don’t know if I knew exactly what I was getting myself into yesterday when I signed up for a brewery tour of the Swan Valley. Yes, you heard me right, a brewery tour. Everyone – when it comes to Perth’s nearby Swan Valley – always raves about the wine country there, but in actually, there is just so much more to this area of the country than the wine. In Swan Valley, you get beer, coffee, chocolate and honey in addition to the wine that is so talked about.
Well, I went for the beer with my Top Gun Tours brewery extravaganza. It started off good with a 6-beer tasting tray at Feral, but it was at that point that I got full… very full. Followed by damper with dips and fresh-made pizzas, plus another pint of beer, I was even more full.

I like beer, a lot. But, apparently, my stomach doesn’t enjoy the mixing of different beers. I felt so full that I actually had to give away all my beers on the 4th brewery (after giving them all a taste first).

I felt like I failed. I failed the brewery tour. How can I usually manage a wicked night out downing at least 4 or 5 pints, but not be able to handle all of these little tasting glasses?
In order to redeem myself, I tried my hardest to make a comeback in the 5th and final brewery, which I did, but it was slow going. Plus, I’d have to say that I didn’t even enjoy the beer at that point, ya know? In fact, I’ve had plenty of people ask me if I had a favorite, but it’s hard to answer because really only the first brewery was one we hit with a clean palette and still caring about the tasting notes (I mean honestly… there were 22 different beers on offer).
I’ll be writing a thorough review over on WhyGo Australia, so stay tuned.

brewery tasting sounds like a lot of fun. how do you keep from getting high?
It does sound like too much of a good thing. I doubt I’d be able to take more than a sip of each!
That sounds fun Brooke! I know sometimes those little glasses can get you knockered. I’m not sure how but I am a huge fan of the little beer tasting glasses.
Feral is one of my favourites!
