Day 58: Hot & Dirty [train] Stations

Day 58: Humid Wynyard Station

Day 58: Humid Wynyard Station

The air outside in Sydney was fairly refreshing at 10pm last night as I made my way back home from a lovely evening at the Glenmore Rooftop in the Rocks. It sprinkled from time to time, but it was just that nice, much-needed bit of rain that didn’t bother. Outside was lovely, but inside…

I hit Wynyard Station after 10pm to be bombarded with a wall of humidity — stinking, sweaty humidity. Ugh. Indoor stations have a tendency to be the worst places on Earth.

After I got my nose pierced in Italy on my study abroad adventure, I spent a bit of time in Rome & London. At the time, I was cleaning my nose out with Q-tips since blowing it was aggravating the piercing, and boy oh boy was I surprised at how BLACK and disgusting those Q-tips were coming out after going on the underground. To think that all those people were breathing that black icky air every single day just screamed infection or cough. Gross.

So, even though I hate the humid underground stations in Sydney like Wynyard and Town Hall, I think London and Rome have to top my list for yucky train stops. What about you? What’s your least favorite hot and dirty station?

Town Hall gets my vote as the hottest. In summer, you wouldn’t know if you were inside or outside. It must get up to 400 degrees ;)

Totally, London is the WORST. I couldn’t believe the stuff that came out of my nose after being down there.

NYC isn’t too much better. None of the stations are A/C’d, but at least the trains are. There are still no signs telling you when the next train is coming, so the waiting is pretty painful in summer.
