Sydney, Australia is a very batty place, and not in the mental “crazy” sense, but in the literal way all the trees in the Botanical Gardens are swarming with gigantic, creepy bats!
The first time I found myself wandering around the gardens, I was confused as to the constant, unpleasant noise filling the air. When suddenly I looked up to see an enormous bat flying low on the ground in my direction, I quickly realized that was the sound of thousands of bats filling every single tree!
It was actually quite confusing. The sun was shining super bright – not a cloud in the sky – and there they were, bats, hanging out getting a suntan. Unfortunately, I was only armed with with my cell phone, whose pictures just weren’t cutting it, so I actually made a second trip for the sole purpose of photographing these normally nocturnal creatures in the park.
Now, I’m from Illinois where the bats we might get are really nothing more than a mouse with wings. However, these guys over in Australia are frighteningly HUGE… at least to me. All the locals walk around like its nothing while I can’t quite take my eyes of them… and to be honest, I often found myself feeling stared back at. *shudder*
There was definitely more to see than just the bats at the gardens. Take a look at the gallery below for more Sydney goodness!

So huge!
interesting… what do they eat?
hmm I don’t know what they eat… I’m going to say fruit and make myself happy
haha
