Things I've Kept: World Bags

worldbagsThis is my world bag collection that I have still managed to carry around with me. The large yellow bag was given to me by the Korean woman I stayed with in Almaty, Kazakhstan. She said she got it in Thailand. I’ve used this bag quite a bit for lugging all my junk around from place to place, taking my teaching materials to class, and even as a purse. Yep, this is the bag that I tried to (unknowingly) smuggle empty bullet shells into the U.S. Consulate in Kiev. Unfortunately, it’s a bit worn out, but still works!

The purse with the fun design is actually a bag I bought in Bishkek made from old Kyrgyz fabric that would traditionally hang inside a yurt. The fabric was made into a purse, but the zipper is shot and all the lining came out. The material is still super sweet, so perhaps I’ll have to take some sewing classes to learn how to refurbish this lovely item.

The last bag is a tiny purse I bought in Guatemala for a few Q. I have been using it to carry my pocket camera for about 2 years now, and it is still in great shape!

  1. I have to say, You are doing so much with your life and are showing some really interestingthings :) thanks for sharing :)

  2. Nice bags! You know what’s funny, I have the exact same little bag as you. Only I didn’t get mine in Guat. I got it here in San Diego in Old Town. Guess why I bought mine – yup to hold my little camera! It’s nice because it’s padded, I bet yours is too!

  3. Neat memory triggers. I love things like that, though the world became very global. One almost can buy everything here too. For me though it’s still not the same. I by something in a place I visit and that little souvenir reminds me of it when I use it or look at it back home.
