Things I've Kept: World Gifts

worldgifts

Of course there are only a few gifts here, but I love them and will keep them forever. The majority in the photo are actually gifts I received from students in Ukraine (aren’t they sweet?!!). For New Year, my student – Marina – gave me the fridge magnet with the cow on it (the symbol for the new year) with the most eloquently written card I’ve ever received.

When one of my classes in Ukraine found out I was leaving for Australia, they pooled some money and got me a small set of hand-painted Ukrainian gifts – necklace, pendant, earrings and jewelry box. I had the best students ever, and it is true that the Ukrainian people – once you get past the exterior – are some of the kindest and warm people I’ve ever met.
