Day 89: Swimming with dolphins

Day 89: Swimming with dolphins

Swimming with dolphins isn’t something I ever really considered in the past, but coming to Australia has really put my nature-loving side out there, and by out there I mean that I have a bit more of it than normal. Animals are now a focal point for me when I travel, and I blame it on those darn little rock wallabies I’ve encountered at 2 different places last year.

Dolphins, though… wild dolphins…. that’s like a dream.

I was invited on a tour with Rockingham Wild Encounters to go on a boat, find wild dolphins, and then get out in the water with them. As with all my Australia stuff, I will be putting a full review out on WhyGo Australia, but in the meantime here are a few photos I caught:

Unfortunately, there is a strict no touching policy, so you can’t actually grab on and catch a ride in true mermaid fashion. But, you can still live in a bit of a dreamworld out there as dolphins zip past and the sounds of their excited squeals fill the air… well water.

Way awesome.

Very cool! I’ve been surfing in San Diego when a group of dolphins cruised past me and then proceeded to surf the waves. It is amazing being that close to them in the wild; it’s also strangely comforting.

Have you seen documentary the Cove, it will break your heart.

Agree with Randy about it being comforting to see them, almost soothing, kinda strange.

I have not seen the Cove, and if it is sad, I probably won’t be heading out to do that!

How cool! I remember riding jet ski’s in NSW, not too far from Tweed Heads, when a pair of dolphins came up and swam by us while we were riding. It was incredibly exciting, I just wish I’d had my camera with me at the time to capture it! Dolphins are such beautiful animals, love them!
