Ahhhhh. I used to be repulsed by Vegemite too and being an Aussie, it almost felt like I was letting the country down! But not long ago I actually tried it and fell in love with it straight away. Now I honestly can’t function without my Vegemite on toast every day ha.

I emptied my travel stash of the stuff today – I’m devastated. While I was brought up on the stuff – literally, by the spoonful – I do get the universal disgust of the untrained palate. I used to work at a hostel in Edinburgh that stocked Vegemite for the free breakfast, and hours of entertainment were to be found watching non-Aussies circling round and round the mysterious yellow tube, picking it up, sniffing it and finally, the most daring, spreading way too much over their toast and grimacing in horror at the first mouthful. Hours of entertainment, I kid you not.

Hilarious! I’ve eaten a lot of odd food in my travels but vegemite is among my least favorite. I do not understand how it is so popular!
