With last night’s festivities, and my old age, my Saturday has been pretty low-key. Besides going out for coffee and watching countless episodes of Mad Men, there has only been a bit of playing around with my new WordPress theme and taking my daily shot with the webcam… hence today’s topic!
I can’t even begin to put into words how awesome technology is, especially the webcam. I mean, having conversations in video form with someone from the other side of the planet? It’s just too cool, and it makes for an awesome way to stay in touch with friends and family wherever they might be.
I tend to give my webcam a good workout. It was just used to take the video of myself chopping off my hair, and I use it to speak with my mom when my computer allows (it’s stubborn sometimes).
When I was in Ukraine, I used a webcam plus Skype to chat with Patrick who was all the way in Australia.
Wait, Brooke, but didn’t you just blog about how technology kills the travel experience?
Yes, I did, but I think that webcams give you a great opportunity to stay in touch in moderation. My previous post was more dealing with the social networking aspect and always needing to be connected. It’s definitely not the same, unless you are addicted to video chat and then spend all your time in an Internet cafe or in the hostel instead of out and about.
How have webcams enhanced your travel experience?
